Eco Craft. A book to inspire you to make recycled home décor items

I hate throwing things away, don't you? That's why I am completely in love with this book that shows you how to make stunningly beautiful objects for your home from junk - the stuff that we would normally send to the garbage or the recycling bin.

New and fresh projects

I've seen hundreds of 'making stuff out of junk' articles on the internet. And I've browsed many books on the subject. I've found that I see the same ideas over and over again and often, there is little or no originality. Some of the projects I've seen in the past use junk - but end up looking like, well, junk. This book is different. See genuine items of beauty that will truly enhance your home and your décor.

Why I recycle

There are three reasons why I found this book so useful. The first is that I love to have beautiful objects in my home. Secondly, I don't want to spend a lot of money on those objects and finally, there is a wonderful satisfaction to be gained from creating something lovely from materials that would otherwise end up on a landfill.

The planet deserves better

Doesn't it seem crazy to you that we work to earn money to buy things that we throw away or that are packaged in such a way that more of the product is discarded than kept? Just yesterday I bought a simple pen. The packing surrounding it was ridiculous and no doubt contributed to the cost of the item. Crazy.

Using this book, we can all make so many delightful products and décor items for our homes that will cost us absolutely nothing.

In history, people have always done this. Why do we think we are so special today in our throwaway society? The answer is that we don't. We can all create beautiful items that we'll enjoy for years using ... junk.

They say that one man's junk is another man's treasure. Well, our own rubbish can become our own treasures.

These are projects that anyone can do. No special skills are needed. And the sense of satisfaction you gain when you create something lovely out of materials you would normally throw away is immense.

Be inspired - teach yourself and your family how to create beauty from items that would otherwise be tossed away.

One item you'll need

I see no point in saving money if you have to spend money in order to do so. That totally defeats the object. But I find this invaluable but simple and inexpensive.

X-ACTO 2 Knife With Safety Cap
X-ACTO 2 Knife With Safety Cap
And to use with the product on the right, this is completely essential. I've tried to cut using all sorts of other knives, scissors and soon but it's never going to work. It cuts paper, card, plastics and even metals. I even use it to trim the bottoms off cut flowers - I estimate that it's used several times a week. What I like about this pack is that it includes two extra blades AND a safety cap. The safety cap is important and note that not all knives have this feature - I can't think why; to me, it's essential.

This isn't from the book but I'm sure will inspire you. See what can be made with just a few oddments and some packaging that would normally be thrown away.

It's a good idea to check out You Tube for fantastic ideas. New recycling and repurposing craft ideas are being uploaded every day. See the video below.
